The higher life, or the lowly life? God’s kind of life, or the world’s kind of life? You cannot have them both. It is either one or the other. You have to choose.
You may try to put off that choice. You may try to hang on to the lowly life while reaching out for the higher life at the same time, so you can see if it is something you really want before you give up everything the world has to offer. However, you are not that tall!
You will never be able to sample the higher life for yourself until you are willing to let go, until you are willing to take God at His Word and trust Him to take care of you.
What will happen to you when you do that? You will start living the kind of life described in Psalm 1. You will be like “a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; [your] leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever [you] do shall prosper” (verse 3).
That means your roots will go down so deep that no drought can dry you up and no storm can blow you down. No matter what happens in the world around you, you will prosper in your relationship with the Lord.
The stronger the wind blows, the more you will bend in the breeze. Depression and inflation will not be able to break you. When the rains stop coming and everyone else is withering away, you will just keep on thriving and bearing the fruit of the Spirit because you are drawing up nourishment from the riverbed of Life!
“For whoever is bent on saving his [temporal] life [his comfort and security here] shall lose it [eternal life]; and whoever loses his life [his comfort and security here] for My sake shall find it [life everlasting].” Matthew 16:25 (AMPC)
That is what the higher life is like and there is nothing that the world has to offer that can even compare. I dare you to let go and trust God.
“Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Thank you for the victory I have in You, Jesus, that I can shake off the shackles that has been keeping me bound to this lowly life. I choose now to reach for the higher life in God through the power of the Holy Spirit. I choose to leave my old life behind, stepping out of my comfort zone, and report for duty, ready to life the higher life that You have in store for me. Amen.”
