Often the darkness we walk in is of our own making. If we find ourselves in a dark place, and we feel so alone and abandoned that it seems that even the Presence of God is no longer with us, more often than not this is a direct result of our own decisions and choices. The most likely scenario is that we KNOW that where we find ourselves requires us to change and acknowledge that we are wrong. Whether it be pride, pain, or arrogance that causes us to wear our broken chains that Jesus freed us from on the cross as jewellery, by refusing to allow God’s truth in our situation we choose to keep ourselves captive, effectively choosing to do the devil’s work for him.
You see Church, my Bible tells me that my God is Light, and where He is, even the darkest night seems like the brightest day. If we then are walking in the dark, it can only be because we CHOOSE to do so. Allowing and applying the Light to our lives requires change, releasing that with which we choose to hold ourselves captive, bringing it into the Light and allowing the Spirit of God to continually transform us into the image of Jesus Christ.
Let us choose to free ourselves from the darkness of wallowing in self-pity and choose to walk in the freedom that Jesus Christ has purchased so dearly for us, as true believers should.
“But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you.” Acts 26:18 (NKJV)
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” Ephesians 5:8 (NKJV)
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12 (NKJV)
“Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You.” Psalm 139:12
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;” Luke 4:18 (NKJV)
“Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I confess that I have wrapped myself in darkness and have chosen, whether it be knowingly or unknowingly, to dress myself with the bondage which You have already broken. Please forgive me for this. Jesus, thank you for dying for my sins and breaking those bondages over my life. May Your Light shine through every corner and facet of my life to reveal Your truth. Amen.
