Remember when you first got into the Word and were so excited about the things of God?  Remember when you could hardly wait to read the next chapter in the Bible or listen to the latest teaching?  There was only one word to describe you; hot!  Your reborn spirit was on fire for God.

When we first hear the message of faith, we are like that.  We are so on fire that nothing else in the world interests us.  We learn that we could trust God’s Word just like we can trust the word of a close friend, and we are hungry to find out everything He has promised us in His Word.

Back then, it might also seem like all we do is read God’s Word.  We read faith books.  We listen to teachings.  We are dedicated.  Our total interest is the Word of God.

But slowly we change.  At first, we did not even realise that it is happening.  Then the Holy Spirit goes back to work on us and shows us that we are growing lukewarm.  We have let the fire die down.  We may still read the Word, but we have lost our enthusiasm.

Maybe you have had this same experience.  If so, I want to tell you how to get the fire back.  It worked for me and it will work for you.

God’s Word says to draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.  In order to do that you will have to first drop the things that are stealing your time from reading the Word.  Delight yourself in His Word.  Become diligent again.  If you will give your attention to the things of God, soon your desire for God will increase.  Your desire will follow your attention.  The more you attend to something, the more your desire is drawn to give attention to that thing.

We can prove that this is a natural principle.  If you play golf, you will go for months at a time without even thinking about it.  Then one day you will make time in your schedule to go to the course and play a round or two.  The next day you may want to play again.  Your desire gets stronger and stronger the more you play.

“Come close to God and He will come close to you.  [Recognise that you are] sinners, get your soiled hands clean; [realise that you have been disloyal] wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts [of your spiritual adultery].”  James 4:8 (AMPC)

This same thing will happen in the spirit realm.  Your soul’s desire will follow whatever you spend your time doing.  Start building yourself up by praying in the spirit.  Believe and act on everything God says to you.  Before long that flicker that is been wavering in your spirit will grow again into an all-consuming fire!

“Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus.  Today I actively choose to pursue and to draw near to You.  Forgive me for setting You aside, for not making You the top priority in my life.  I want to be on fire for You and for Your word.  Thank you for always being here for me in spite of my flaws and failures.  Amen.”

LFM!  Draw near to God again that His Richest Love and Blessings may be your portion again.
