The company that you keep, defines you. The company you keep has such a huge influence on your spiritual life. Fellowshipping with Godly people will help speed you on to victory, while fellowshipping with those who are ungodly will drag you down to defeat.
That is why the Bible has some things to say about your friends. That is why it tells you to separate yourself from the world. Because evil companions will corrupt you.
Now, we are not talking about ministry. Jesus Himself ministered to sinners. You have to mix with them to preach to them and pray for them. Job 22:30 says that “He will even deliver the one [for whom you intercede] who is not innocent; yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.” That entails that you need to remain set apart for your hands to remain clean in order to intercede in Spirit and in truth for those of unclean hands, so that they may be saved. What we are talking about here are the people you choose for friends and might even include some of your family members with which to choose to socialise with. If you will not leave your children alone with an abusive addict as a stranger, then it is also not OK to let them spend uncensored time with uncle ‘John Doe’ who is a violent drunk just because he is family.
If you want to walk in the things of the Lord, do not choose to spend social time with friends and family who walk in the things of the world, people who talk and act ungodly, who do not give God any place in their lives. They will pull you down. As you rub shoulders with them, you will expose yourself to temptation. You will get so familiar with sin that it will start to appear less repulsive to you. Sooner or later, you will fall into it.
“I wrote you in my [previous] letter not to associate [closely and habitually] with unchaste (impure) people – not [meaning of course that you must] altogether shun the immoral people of this world, or the greedy graspers and cheats and thieves or idolaters, since otherwise you would need to get out of the world and human society altogether!” 1 Corinthians 5:9-10 (AMPC)
So, choose your friends wisely, and censor your family gatherings. Fellowship with those who call on the Name of the Lord out of a pure heart (2 Timothy 2:22). Expose yourself to their love and peace. Let their faith rub off on you!
“Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Help me choose to fellowship with people who glorify You and who walk in Your ways. Please grant me wisdom and understanding that my hands may remain clean and that I may remain righteous in Your sight as I show the world Who You are in my life. Amen.”
May God’s Richest Love and Blessings lead to new life and new opportunities for our LFM family.
